The town of Ellsinore through the years had only one main
place that the teenagers could hang out, enjoy each
other, and play games: ” The Coffee House". However a
sad thing happened, it was destroyed by fire around 25
years ago. Then approximately four years ago the
Ellsinore Youth Center idea originated with some of our
local church leaders. The Center was established by a
ministerial alliance whose members worked very hard to
organized and equip the Center. Two things happen
through the years: the down sizing of their board and
the lack of volunteers for supervision. The center was closed in September of
2004.
In
January of 2005, a new community committee board of
eight people was organized to lease and manage the new
"Ellsinore Youth and Community Center" as a
safe, smoke and drug free place for youth ages ten to
eighteen to hang out and enjoy the activities two
evenings a week (Friday and Saturday 6 - 10 p.m.)
In
the future, we hope to be able to expand our services to
include other age groups in the community.
The Boy and Girl Scouts utilize the Center for their
meetings and the Center is available for community events
for a nominal fee.
